Highs:
Christmas was beautiful and bittersweet. I loved spending it at home with my husband and children. We exchanged gifts, stayed up way too late, and woke up far too early. I made all of our holiday favorites and a few new ones. I ate without fear and lived in the moment.
Spending part of Christmas Eve and day in our family Facetime group chat was weird and wonderful. I ached to hug my mother, sisters, nieces, and brother-in-law. At times I felt myself starring so hard at their beautiful faces, wishing I could make them appear in the flesh. Christmas 2020 was weirdly-beautiful, bittersweet, and hopefully the last of its kind!
Lows:
I had it for a brief moment and now I have to get it back. If you read last week’s update (*below), then you know I finally made it into the 150s. It was a fleeting victory. I was prepared for it though. I planned to enjoy some holiday goodies in moderation, and I did. I worked hard to keep portion sizes for decadent foods small and It worked. The calories still packed a powerful punch, as did the excess oils, sugars, and salt. My back pain came back with a vengeance. I haven’t hurt this much in a while. I controlled the calories but not the inflammation. This sucks. I dearly love cakes, cookies, and plant-based junk foods. They just don’t love me back!
Real Life
Without hesitation, I woke up on December 26th and dove right back into my plan. Maybe not dove, more like a slow painful crawl, while fantasizing about a big bowl of Ibuprofen for breakfast.
In Conclusion:
I’ve gotta be honest, I don’t think it was worth it to consume so many high oil and sodium laced foods. I need a better plan for the next celebration. My back literally can’t take it!
