God Cares When Your Thought Life Is Under Attack!

I couldn’t make it stop. My mind was riddled with anxiety and sadness. Add in a healthy dose of self-doubt swirled with fear and the finished product was me crying in the shower under a cloud of steam. I didn’t see it coming. The morning was typical at best. Up at 6:30, teeth brushed and decaf coffee brewing away. Upon waking I also prayed for my loved ones, subscribers, followers, and those who I knew needed prayer.
Can praying for others trigger an attack?
The day continued and so did the relentless sense of fear. Normally I would suffer alone. But this day I chose to ask my husband for prayer. I needed help! He took one look at my tear-stained face and dropped his headphones on the desk. He gently placed his hands on the sides of my face and began to pray. As he prayed, I could feel the sadness lifting off of me. To this day I marvel at moments like this.
Have you ever felt like something was hounding your thoughts?
I’m not a big “everything is the Devil conspiracy theorist. But that morning it felt a lot like my thoughts were under attack.
We may never know for sure. But here’s what I do know. If our thoughts ever trend toward isolation and despair something has to be done. God put is in the community for a reason. We are created to need one another. If you can’t pray for yourself because you are hurting too much, let someone you trust, who is faithful to the Lord pray for you. This may sound weird, but there have been times where I just sit in silence with my thoughts postured in prayer toward God. And I ask HIM to pray for me.
I’ve never heard the audible voice of God. I’m not entirely sure I could survive that. But I do remain there in prayer, head bowed and heart open to him alone. There is not a soul on this planet who can convince me that God will ignore my desperate pleas. Or yours either.
We don’t have to know with absolute assurance where every negative, hurtful, and self-destructive thought comes from. We just need to know that God cares. God wants to be the barrier between your thoughts and all other influences. He has already invited us to renew our minds with his cleansing word.
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
The word of God is active. It works on troubling thoughts and anxious hearts. God gave us his word to be used. So, use it!
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Reading your bible does not take the place of medication or medical advice. God can do anything. He can heal an anxious mind. He can also lead you to the right professional for help or send you a prayer partner. He is there when you are praying alone. He is also there when you are sitting in the waiting room for a diagnosis. The good news is, HE IS THERE! So read, pray, get prayed for, and seek help when you need it.
The body of Christ is here for a reason. That reason is you!
Authors Note: My offer always stands. Don’t suffer alone. I will pray for you. My team will pray for you. All you have to do is ask…
