Do you live in fear of losing weight only to find out the work is not over? I vividly recall standing on the scale and experiencing the joy of reaching my goal weight, only to wake up the next day fearful of how I would maintain it.
We all have to grapple with this at some point. Former addicts fight every day to stay clean, knowing relapse is one phone call away. I wish I could assure every Christian that this will be different for us. The truth is I can. I confidently say that God is more significant than any temptation you will ever face. Scripture teaches us,
1 Corinthians 10:13
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
Though we still have to do the work to remain free, God has given us foolproof promises and the help of the Holy Spirit to ensure our freedom.
If I could share one thing that changed the tide of my health journey, it would be to believe that the Holy Spirit will help you. I am a living testimony of that. What’s remarkable about this statement is that until my twenties, I grew up in a church that denied the power of the Holy Spirit. I didn’t think the Holy Spirit still operated in the lives of believers. No wonder my life was out of control. I can assure you that today, I know the Holy Spirit is real and at work in the lives of those who trust in Jesus.
Whether you know beyond knowing that the Spirit of Christ lives in you or, like me, you have yet to acknowledge his presence, today is the day for change.
Even after God established my relationship with the Holy Spirit, I still had not invited him into my food addiction issues. This one decision kept me stuck in my sin cycle. Please don’t wait as long as I did. The help you need is one prayer away. Stop looking for quick-fix solutions that will never last. It’s time to “let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians 5:16 This promise is the guarantee you have been searching for. The Holy Spirit is your lifeline. He will join you at every meal. He’ll show you how to escape temptation. He will show you how to get free and stay free.
I’ve learned whatever method you use to lose weight, you will have to maintain it. I chose a helper who will never leave me nor forsake me. What will your choice be?
