I’ve started this blog half a dozen times.  I wanted to share this message with the same power and conviction it came to me .  Since there are no perfect words, I’ll dive right in.

On this particular morning, the sun was blinding in its luminescence and heat.  I was on my second lap, willing myself to reach the stop sign at the corner so I could catch my breath.  The morning was particularly peaceful in our urban neighborhood.  I found myself wishing my mind matched the tranquil scenery.  I didn’t feel upset, just busy in thought.  I have been diligently working towards building my brand.  I’m finally beginning to see some fruit; which is a blessing.  The hard part is wanting my business to grow faster and turn a larger profit over night.

Being  a teacher seems to come easy.  I’m confident in my skill set.  I found myself comparing the two.  When will my new business become as successful as my current job?  These thoughts kept racing through my mind during my power walk.  As I rounded the corner to head home.  The image on the ground stopped me cold in my tracks.

I stared at the sidewalk in disbelief.  My eyes began to mist and I could feel even more heat rising in my flushed cheeks.  There was my answer, spray painted on the sidewalk.  It wasn’t so much the actual words but the hidden message.  White spray paint read “Root Protect”.   Nearby was the culprit.  A mature tree had grown roots deep enough to break the concrete over time.  I wanted to scream to near passerby’s.  This is me!!!  I’m growing roots for a new beginning.  Someday my current life will give way to the power of my growing future.  Many of us are on a path to growing our dreams.  Every so often we hit a hard part that says we will never break through.  I’m here to encourage us both.  If we stay the course: by growing our craft , nourishing our minds, caring for our bodies and working towards our dreams, we will break through.  I can’t begin to imagine how long it took the roots of that tree to crack something as strong and concrete; but it can be done.  We have the advantage of ingenuity,  faith and strategic strikes!

The depth of our roots will determine the force of our breakthrough!  Keep growing.  It is just a matter of time before our current life gives way a new reality.
