Growing Your Dreams!

I am becoming an entrepreneur. Now what? I’m in the middle of answering this question for myself. I wasn’t sure what my next steps should be so I asked. I am the first to admit I am a fish out of water. I keep hearing, you don’t need all the answers. You just need connections to someone who has been where you’re trying to go. I found that someone and interviewed them and learned so much. Interviewing is just he beginning. What I’m ultimately seeking is a mentor. Though I haven’t found one yet I’ll continue searching and learning. So here’s what Ive learned so far:
- Keep reading and growing your knowledge base. The library and friends who will loan you books are great resources. I also get books on the cheap- I mean real cheap through Bookbub.com. ( I’m not affiliated with them, nor do I receive ANY monetary compensation-though I wish I did, so call a girl:)
- Sign up for local conferences. I signed up for a free small business conference held at a university. I also signed up for one that charges a fee. I’m realizing I can find almost whatever I’m searching for if I take the time to look.
- YouTube university is a great resource. I do have to weed my way through to find what I am looking for. I also have to set a timer and commit to my specific search, otherwise, I have squirrel syndrome and end up watching how to tie dye tees for 20 minutes.
- Start a small group. This was by far the most intimidating of what I have done so far! I found like minded individuals within my network and started an accountability group centered around our goals. We meet weekly, report our progress on the previous week’s goals and set new goals. This keeps me on target and I love the mentor-ship that has developed. I will caution, we do not tell the specifics of our business plans. I wouldn’t do that unless you have some sort of legal intellectual property agreements in place.
- Define, complete and celebrate small incremental steps. I learned quickly that growing a business is all about having a larger vision made up of smaller steps. I do something everyday for my business. Some tasks are large and some are small in nature. One day I might read a chapter in an area I feel I need to grow more. Other days I make cold calls, write a blog, shoot a video or plan my next steps in my journal. The rule is, I keep advancing the dream DAILY!!! I feed my vision through small strategic steps. This keeps the vision alive and growing forward. What I’m about to share might seem humorous, but when I made my first few cents, I celebrated, told my husband and children and thanked God (Very loudly)! I knew at that point, if I have the power to make change, I also have the power to make dollar bills. Let’s celebrate the small steps that move us towards the greater vision!
Here a few resources to help you grow.
◊ Bookbub

◊ Trello – I use this app from Apple’s app store to organize my weekly, monthly and annual goals.
◊ Whatsapp and Skype – These are both great ways to connect communicate and meet virtually.
◊ The Bible – That’s right! The bible is a way of staying on a path that is true. In the bible I find inspiration, and gain wisdom for business. I am currently reading through Proverbs. If you don’t believe the Bible can help in business, check this little power packed verse out: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed”. This verse right here made me realize it was time to stop doing everything on my own and seek wise counsel. #takethattothebank!
My heart is humbled that you are on this journey with me. I’m praying for you!!!
Much love! As always, I wish you unshakeable faith, wealth beyond measure and laughter ’til it hurts.
