Highs:
I ate pie; a lot of pie! I also took a much-needed break and enjoyed spending time with my little family of 4. We rented a cabin in the Shenandoah Valley for a change of scenery. Our Thanksgiving consisted of board games, long walks in nature, good food, and late nights. It was everything I needed to feel recharged.
Lows:
If the title didn’t give it away, then I’ll spell it out. I did experience a minor amount of weight gain. I didn’t try to overdo it. I also didn’t try to prevent it. I employed my new-found Eat To Live strategies, by planning ahead. I brought along lots of green veggies and modified several of my holiday dishes to be plant-based and lower in fat. Fortunately, my family loved the modifications and gobbled them up. I made their traditional dishes, but they preferred mine. Was I happy to see them consuming so many green veggies? Of course! Did that leave me with fewer options? You bet! No worries though. As soon as I arrived back home, I went back to my eating plan.
Real Life
I have been slowly changing our family’s eating habits. This trip taught me that they are way more receptive than I was giving them credit for. I’m looking forward to changing my “special foods” into our foods. This will take a load off of dual meal prepping and help us all live healthier in the process.
In Conclusion:
I’m not sad that I gained a little weight. It could have been worse without a plan in place. I know what to do to take it off. Let the journey continue!
